Children at St Peter’s Cross Keys C of E Academy in Farndon have been enjoying a basketball masterclass as part of their health and wellbeing timetable.
Part of a recovery curriculum for children aimed at improving core strength and fitness as well as promoting wellbeing through activity, the classes proved to be a hit with children.
Professional Sports Teacher and Coach, Mark Waters, delivered the series of workshops and said, “Now is a great time to get children active and involved in new sports activities. I love coming to St Peter’s and have been here before, -the children and staff are always friendly and welcoming.” Mark said he has found some evidence following recent lockdowns that fitness levels in the general population has decreased. “It is so important to promote children’s fitness and wellbeing and to do it in a fun way. St Peter’s is addressing this, and my classes are about inspiring children to get active again and learn some new skills along the way. Hopefully the children will enjoy the lessons and perhaps some will develop a love of basketball!”
Pupil Maicie Chiswell age 9 said, “I have been learning how to dribble the ball and lots of other things. Also, I think it is nice to be in the fresh air and out of a classroom. I think that doing lessons like this makes you stronger and keeps you going, and I am happy we get to try so many different sports.”
