St Mary Magdalene Church of England Primary School welcomed Lee Anderson MP into school for a tour ahead of the return of children who have been home schooling.
Head Teacher Sam Robinson said, “We were delighted to be able to welcome Lee Anderson MP into school to see for himself the wonderful work the staff and children are doing at St Mary Magdalene C of E Primary School. He spent time visiting our classrooms, speaking to staff and talking to children about their work.
“Mr Anderson was also keen to hear of our experiences during the pandemic and our plans to welcome children back into school. We are grateful for the time he spent with us and we are looking forward to a further opportunity for children to speak to Mr Anderson, in person or virtually, about Parliament and the work he does as an MP.”
Following the visit, Lee Anderson MP said, “Visiting local schools is very important, and for me its personal. These schools in Ashfield are schools I have either been to myself as a child, or where my children have been, my nieces and nephews, as well as my Mum, Dad, Grandma and Grandad attended.
“When I attend Parliament, I speak up in education debates and I can do so with confidence that I know what I am talking about through my visits. I take time to get to know the parents, teachers and children and I will always do my very best for children in Ashfield. Education is so important. During my visit here today to St Mary Magdalene C of E Primary Academy, the Trust CEO Chris Moodie, and Sam Robinson the Head Teacher have taken me around some fantastic classrooms, with fantastic teachers. I have never seen so many children smiling in a school! They were smiling, engaging, laughing and wanting to talk to me and asking me questions, - which is a credit to this great school and its great academy Trust.”
CEO of the Diocese of Southwell & Nottingham Multi-academy Trust (SNMAT) is Chris Moodie who said, “It was great to meet with Lee and show him the wonderful work that Sam Robinson and her team are doing at St Mary’s. The children were delighted to show him what they are working on – and are very excited by the prospect of working with him in the future. St Mary’s is a fantastic school and SNMAT are exceptionally proud to count them as one of our partners.”
