Magnus Church of England Academy performed their Christmas Carol concert at St Mary Magdalene Church, in Newark this year, and welcomed around 200 visitors to the event.
Jackie Thacker is Leader of Youth and Community Music at Magnus and organised the concert. She said, “It was a delightful evening of music and worship shared within the walls of our beautiful parish church. It certainly filled everyone’s hearts with a little festive cheer, and I am so proud of all our talented students who took part, they are an absolute credit to Magnus.”
During the Carol service students read prayers and a poem and sang ‘Silent Night’, ‘O Come all Ye Faithful’ and ‘Joy to the World’, alongside a more contemporary piece, ‘It’s a Magical time’.
Anna Martin, Magnus C of E Academy Principal said, “This year’s carol service is particularly special as it revives a tradition of our event being held in St Mary Magdalene Church. Our year 7’s performed with enthusiasm and confidence to a packed congregation. This was by no means an easy undertaking for the youngest children in school. Yet they took it completely in their stride, demonstrating all our Magnus values. We are incredibly proud of not only how they performed but of the wonderful young people they are. They have a bright and exciting future ahead of them in our wonderful school.”
Mila Bolanos-Martin is a year 7 student who took part in the Carol Service and said, “The carol concert was really good and I enjoyed it. It was a great experience for us to have. Not everyone gets the opportunity to take part in an event like that, especially in St Mary Magdalene parish church.
“I wasn’t nervous, -just excited, because we had been rehearsing for a while. Some people have a fear of singing or speaking in front of a crowd like that but once we started, everyone got over it and had fun!”
