Magnus C of E Academy Awards celebrates students’ achievements

Magnus Church of England Academy has celebrated the efforts and achievements of its students in the annual Magnus Awards event.

Awards were given in each year group for the academy’s values of Determination, Integrity, Ambition, Humility and Compassion; in addition to subject and 100% attendance awards. Special Awards for sports, character, excellence, community, and alumni were also given, and an exceptional member of the Magnus Combined Cadet Force, Raluca Scurtulescu, received the prestigious Sir Andrew Pulford Award, and was presented with a ceremonial sword by the special guest himself.

Former student of Magnus, Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford KCB CBE ADC RAF is a retired senior Royal Air Force Commander and attended the ceremony to present the award named in his honour. He said, “Magnus is fundamental and the very foundations on which I built my career and my life. The values that were introduced and imposed here set the tone for what I did from that time onwards. So, to come back to ensure that the school is in good hands, and Anna (Principal of Magnus) is doing a superb job, -and to refresh myself in terms of the quality and confidence of the young people is very important.

“My prize reflects the best cadet within the CCF, and to see young people like Raluca coming through, showing great confidence and adding value back and learning leadership skills, makes me confident she will go on to do great things. Young people today just need the opportunities; they need the support of their families and the community around them, and support the like of which Magnus provides well, and we can all be confident and have great hope for the future.”

Raluca Scurtulescu received the Sir Andrew Pulford Award and said, “I am really proud of myself and thankful to everyone who has helped me to achieve what I have so far. I would like to inspire other people and to make their day better. My family are here today, and they are very proud of me.”

Student Holly Pask won the Character Excellence Award and said, “I didn’t expect this to happen, but I am very happy about it! I always try to do my best in everything at school and to be kind to others, – to set a good example. Magnus is such a good school and I really enjoy being here.”

Anna Martin is Principal of Magnus C of E Academy and she said, “It is a real delight to be celebrating our wonderful students with so many parents, carers and invited guests. Our students really are the best part of our school. At our awards we see students who have chosen to live out Magnus values in their daily life; they have shown determination and ambition to improve, and to be the very best version of themselves, academically, in the arts and as all round great human beings.  We are very proud of our school and our students.”
