Children at Haggonfields Primary School have been exploring the fascinating world of sculpture in their Art classes this term, creating their own mini masterpieces.
Year 3 and 4 pupils found their inspiration in the style and sculptures of renowned artists such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth.
Elaine Grierson, Head Teacher explained. “Children have embraced the challenge of designing and creating their own soap sculptures, experimenting with form, texture, and space, all key elements of Moore’s work. As they prepare for a visit to the Hepworth Gallery in April, children will be equipped with the knowledge and appreciation of sculpture, ready to engage with the iconic works of Barbara Hepworth and other sculptors, broadening their perspective and artistic journey.”
Year 4 pupil, Benjamin, said, “I made a sculpture in the style of Barbara Hepworth. It was really messy, mine didn’t look like my sketch, -and soap was all over! I am looking forward to going to the Hepworth gallery, I think the sculptures will be huge.”
